1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard

Years ago, I had promised myself that I would one day own a Les Paul. Now, you have to
realize that I'm a keyboard player, so spending the money for a Les Paul was not a real
high priority for me. Besides that, I never really liked the way any Gibson guitar played.
Then in 1982, I sort of gave up playing and sold everything (except my Steinway B). I even
sold my '61 Strat back in 1985 (sob!). The Strat was the last to go but I really never planned
on playing music again, execpt for my own enjoyment. Well, anyway, to make a long story short.
I started playing again. Decided I still liked guitars, and even though I still primarily play
keyboards..., guitars are cooler and more fun to collect. So, when the opprotunity to purchase this
1982 beauty presented itself, I knew I had to work something out.

It just so happened that my 10th wedding anniversary was about 2 months a way when I found the Paul, so
I worked a deal with my wife. She wanted a 10 year diamond anniversary ring for her anniversary
present, and I wanted this Les Paul. The two items were priced remarkably close, so for our 10 year
anniversary, I got my Les Paul, and my wife got her 10 year diamond wedding band. Everybody was happy!

I have changed the volume and tone knobs from the original Top Hat vintage style to the more modern Speed Knobs.
They're not as cool looking but they are much more practical and easier to use in live performance. Of course,
I'm a keyboard player, so it shouldn't matter to me, however, the lead guitar player in my band has me bringing
it to all the gigs so he can play it, and he suggested the Speed Knobs. A couple of the original Gotoh tuners
were a little loose, so I changed them out with a set of Sperzel TrimLoks.

I Still don't like the way Gibson's play, but this one plays as good as any of the ones I have tried. At high
volume the PAF pickup's tone (just like all the others I've ever heard) turns mud, and loses pitch definition.
As a player, I keep telling myself that I need to change the pickups and have the neck reshaped. At least I
would get it out of the case every once in a while if I did. What to do? So many guitars, and so little time!

In the pics below, you can see some of my paul's "character" marks.
Most notably the finish checking on the headstock and around the body binding.
