If your looking for vintage collectibles, look elsewhere. You won't find
overpriced and underplayed instruments in my collection. One of the great travesties
of the 20th century is the yuppie interest in "vintage" guitars. These "investors"
seem to be under the impression that they can buy an old guitar and, 15 years from now,
they can send their kids to college on the proceeds. The real shame of all of this is that
the "collectors" are keeping these guitars out of the hands of the musicians. Of course, If
a musician owned it, he would be setting it up to play well again, and that would destroy it's
"collector" value. Let's face it, a 40 year old pickup is gonna suck! Even if it hasn't been
played a lot, the windings deteriorate and the magnets weaken. Rewinding or even replacement
is necessary in many cases just to get a decent tone. One day, I'll get around to posting an
entire page devoted to rants about this kind of stuff. 'Till then, just know that my guitars
are players guitars. To me, this new wave of "vintage value" seems extremely artifical.
The REAL value of a guitar is in the feeling I get when I pick it up and play it.
