No longer my current "gigging" guitar, but always on call if I need it.
I don't gig with a guitar much. In my band, I'm the Keyboard Guy, so I might
get a chance to play guitar on 4 or 5 songs during the night, and each time I may need a
radically different tone. This guitar is ideal for that kind of situation. It is easily the most
versatile instrument in my stringed collection. Combined with my Soldano 4x10 amp,
it can go from being the cleanest Strat you can imagine, to a screaming Les Paul with the
click of a foot switch. The solid Mahogany body and neck along with the long
deep neck pocket makes for sustain that doesn't just rival a set neck, but goes beyond it.
With an action that is similar to a pre 1995 PRS Custom 24, it is simply a pleasure to play. The
Rio Grande Vintage Tallboy Humbuckers are actually just 2 VTB single coils mounted side by side.
This means that when you split the coils, you get a true, very vintage, single coil sound.
Besides the standard 5 way switching that allows me to split each humbucker individually, I have
a push-pull pot on the tone control to allow me to split both pickups at once and play both
as single coils. If I was limited to only owning only one guitar, this would have to be it,
just because it can do it all so very well.
