Here's one I never thought I would Own! Schecter's USA built Strat Styled guitars have never been high on my list of coveted guitars, but what caught my eye on this one is the way the finish causes the grain of the Mahogany body to jump out at you. The Schecter Traditional usually comes with either an Alder or Ash body, but someone custom ordered this one with a one piece Mahogany body, and I'm glad they did! Even when played unplugged the tone of this guitar is evident. It just sings and seems to sustain for days! Once it's plugged in the Schecter "Monster Tone" single coils clearly tell you that this is NOT your Grand Dad's Strat. These have to be the hottest true single coils I have ever heard! Now, I love vintage tone, and a Strat with really good vintage wound pickups are hard to beat, but there is NOTHING vintage about these pickups, and I love them anyway. The tone control is a push-pull pot that "taps" the single coils to make them "sort of" vintage, but not really. I had been looking for a Tom Anderson Classic that I could afford for some time now. This guitar plays almost exactly like an Anderson Classic with the '62 'roundback' neck style, and the 'fit and finish' quality is right up there as well. I still want to get an Anderson or two somewhere down the road, but for now this guitar has calmed the jitters I get everytime I see one for sale, and I know that I really can't justify spending that much on a guitar when I'm really a Keyboard Player. |
